12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by[c] one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. 1 Corinthians 12:12-14

The Apostle Paul had been discussing in previous verses about the importance of the different gifts that the Holy Spirit imparts and now he is relating the different gifts of the Spirit to the individuals and using the analogy of the body.  As Paul states we all make up the body and each part of the body is equally important to function and to make the body function as it should. Without a particular part of the body the body would not function as intended. So it is with the body of Christ.  Each gift and person within the body of Christ is equally important. Though each gift and individual is different in nature, they all work together to accomplish the same goal.  Because we have a certain gift we should not think of ourselves more highly than someone else. Each one is equally important to the body of Christ.  All gifts are given by the Holy Spirit so that the Body of Christ will function in full capacity. When someone doesn’t operate in their gift the body suffers.
